田华教授硕士和博士期间曾就读于华东理工大学，毕业后在上海交通大学做博士后，之后在同济大学从事教学和科研工作。1997-1998年受洪堡基金资助在德国杜伊斯堡-埃森大学做访问学者，1998-2000年在该校担任高级科研人员，2000-2001年在英国切尔滕纳姆格洛斯特郡大学任高级讲师。目前应聘于英国Glasgow Caledonian University（格拉斯哥卡里多尼亚大学），是该校计算机系的首席教授，并担任VOTER虚拟开放技术研究室主任。同时也是人工智能+物联网实验室主任。
田华教授的主要研究领域包括云计算、大数据、物联网、信息物理系统和无线传感网络等。目前，担任IEEE SMC协会自组织与普适系统技术委员会主席，担任国际期刊International Transactions on Systems Science and Applications、Multiagent and Grid Systems、Systemics and Informatics World Network的主编，Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence和IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems的副编辑，发表论文160余篇，多次应邀在国际学术会议上作报告。
